7 reasons no comments blog

Last week I asked on my Facebook page what is the top reason that prevent people from commenting on a blog post. And I’ve got plenty of great replies that I want to share with you! So do me a favor and go through this checklist to make sure you are not making any of these mistakes.

Why? Because I want you to be successful and get plenty of comments on your blog!

Ready? Here we go:

1. You require registration.

Wait a minute, we just met and you are asking me for such a big commitment? It’s too soon, and too much of a hassle. I’ll leave.

2. You use captcha to prevent spam.

Yes, I don’t like spam either, but don’t expect that I’ll jump through the loops just to leave you a comment. I cannot figure out those crazy letters and numbers and I don’t like you testing my math skills either :)

3. You said everything about the subject already.

Well, you obviously know what you are talking about and have such a good understanding of the subject, there’s really nothing more to say. Even if I can think of a comment, I’m kinda hesitant to add one, you’ll probably laugh at me.

4. You didn’t ask.

I was expecting an invitation to say something at the end of the post, but it never came. Well, I’m a bit of a shy person myself, and I’m not used to speak without being asked.

5. You are replying late to comments.

I already commented a few times, but you didn’t reply. I mean, I even asked you a question about the post and… nada. I kept checking for a while but then I forgot. Next time I’ll go ask elsewhere.

6. You never reply to comments.

Lots of people commented already, I mean over 50 people, and you never said a “Thank you” at least. Why should I bother to comment then? I guess you won’t reply to me either.

7. You never commented on my blog.

Wait a minute, I commented a few times, actually more like 10 times. But I never see you coming to comment on my blog. I’ll continue to come, after all, I really like your content, it’s very useful, but why spending the extra 10 minutes to comment?

Your turn!

Hope you enjoyed it! What is your top reason for not commenting on a blog? Share with me in a comment, please! Have questions? Ask in a comment too!

Comments

  1. I agree with some of the others here, I don’t always like leaving a comment if it’s also going to be a post on my Facebook timeline. Most of those comment boxes do have an option you can click so that it doesn’t post for you, but still.

  2. 1 & 2 are the main ones that deter me from commenting. I shouldn’t have to work that hard to leave a comment. If I come across one that I want to leave a comment and have any difficulty, I try to leave my comment on another platform (i.e. Facebook or Google+).

  3. As a fairly new blogger and in on the UBC, your tips are precious, Delia. I realize now the importance of these details. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. Sherrell T Martin says:

Reason #1 is why I don’t comment. Ironically I think my blog comments are set up the same way.

  5. Great points. Usually I only get comments from people who disagree with me. It would help if people got in the habit of saying nice things about blogs too. Sometimes it feels just like talking to the wall.

    • Joseph, welcome to my blog! I think that getting comments, even if people disagree with you, is still a great thing. Better than no comments at all, right? You may want to try different types of posts to see if you get a different reaction.
Perhaps giving advice on various aspects of writing and asking for more input from your readers? That tends to work for all types of blogs :)

  6. Hi Delia – I’m guilty of #7 – but my intention is good. It’s just fitting another discipline into the day, I guess. Gosh, I’m going to be so disciplined eventually I won’t know myself :)
PS. Are you using Comment Luv Premium here (as opposed to the freebie?)

    • LOL, Caroline, I love it when you say your intention is good!

Yes, I have the CommentLuv Premium installed on the site, very happy with it! Highly recommend it – when you see a sale just jump on it!

It has a few plugins in one and makes maintenance much better. I wrote a post about it, check it out at the link attached to my comment :)

  7. I might be a bit guilty of number 7. Although I do take the time to visit other blogs and usually learn something new I’m always on fast forward mode, so I move on to my next task. I definitely appreciate the knowledge, so perhaps I should be setting a “Pause” and then “Play Mode” to express my gratitude! :) I love the feedback that you are able to get from your Facebook page!

  8. I like no. 4. I never know what the action request should be especially at the end of a blog post.

I am a very reserved person when it comes to commenting on blogs and FB or any other social media. I have been working hard to get out of my comfort zone. Hence my comment on your blog!

Thanks – I’m looking forward to going through your other posts.

  9. Hi Delia ~ I am really looking forward to the day when I have so many comments I can’t keep up!!! I guess I would need to do more blog posts! I do enjoy your posts and you are so right regarding removing the obstacles! Thanks for all the good info!
